TikTok going bye-bye? Grow your new accounts fast with our Social Media Manager platform list
Hint: Not everyone will be headed for Instagram.
Kids don't listen to the music their parents do once they reach a certain age. And they definitely don't hang out as much on the apps as their parents do. Kids are looking for the newest trends on Facebook. Instagram is also where their folks hang out, which is what helped make the obscure China-based app TikTok so huge - it was something new, something fresh, something for the youth.
Of course, it expanded to all ages, touting over 1 billion users. But don't expect all TikTok viewers who can no longer access the app in India, and soon, the US, to be running back to Grandpa’s social networks. Most likely, your brand already has a presence on Instagram, Twitter and Threads. Keep doing what you're doing there. But even if TikTok stays, now is a perfect time to make new content and release it on the next generation of apps. Here are all of the apps you should be aware of, including the smaller ones positioned to take TikTok's place with the next generation of viewers.
1. YouTube Shorts
Daily viewers: 50+ million in the U.S.
The first and most likely place is YouTube shorts. YouTube Shorts has seen substantial growth, particularly in the U.S., thanks to its TikTok-like format. It leverages YouTube’s broader reach, which helps push the short-form video format further into the mainstream. However, remember, it's still YouTube in many of the audience's eyes, and no necessarily their go-to for quick swipe entertainment. Any decent social media manager knows you should be here.
2. Instagram/Facebook
Daily viewers: 190+ million (U.S.) on each platform
Meta still maintains a strong foothold in the U.S., particularly among older demographics. Some of the TikTok audience will move over to, and many use the app already - yet its brand of content, style, and algorithm are more like FB than like TikTok, meaning YouTube Shorts or one of the other below alternatives are a great place to consider expanding to. If a social media manager tries to skip this platform(s), the person is nuts. However, it's nowhere the younger TIkTok users are likely to land.
3. Snapchat
Daily viewers: 90+ million (U.S.)
Snapchat continues to engage younger demographics A great place to advertise, and a great place to get viewership but lasting relationships are less likely in many ways on this platform. The platform is less "influencer" and "content creator" based and more about each individual clip, making it hard to build a following off of a successful clip. That said, it's still a great place to promote.
4. Likee
Daily viewers: 15+ million (U.S.)
Likee is a short-form video platform that is growing in popularity, especially among Gen Z. It’s similar to TikTok but with additional interactive features like live broadcasting. Likee is very likely to grow rapidly, yet is also owned by a company in China, so it may run into similar issues in the future. However, is it growing fast and likely to be a great place to promote - absolutely.
5. Clapper
Daily viewers: 3-5 million (U.S.)
Sometimes it's easier to stand out of the pack on smaller apps. Clapper has such few creators that you can generate strong viewership numbers there with little effort! Clapper is a newer platform that has emerged as an alternative to TikTok, with a focus on free speech and non-censorship, so be prepared for a bit more rough and tumble type content than TikTok or Snapchat, yet if your audience is late teens through early twenties, there are viewers here for you..
6. Rumble
Daily viewers: 10-15 million (U.S.)
Rumble has carved out a niche for itself, particularly in the political and alternative content space. It’s seeing strong user engagement from individuals interested in less mainstream views. There are some nut jobs on the platform, but there are also viewers excited for content that isnt just the typical political fae.
7. Threads (by Meta)
Daily viewers: 25+ million (U.S.)
Threads had a surge in users when it launched as Meta’s direct competitor to Twitter/X. The platform’s integration with Instagram made it an easy switch for users, but engagement has varied as the platform continues to evolve.
8. Wattpad
Daily viewers: 10+ million (U.S.)
Wattpad is a storytelling and reading platform, and while it’s not traditionally a "social media" in the sense of short-form content, its active user base regularly engages with both stories and related discussions. If you want to consider staying in users faces with Brand Visibility, Wattpad may be an intersting choice.
9. Triller
Daily viewers: 6-8 million (U.S.)
Triller is a direct competitor to TikTok, and one of the most likely places that TikTok’s user base will move to. It is focused on short-form video creation, particularly in the music industry. It’s attracting influencers and musicians who are looking for an alternative to TikTok’s dominance. This ius a great place to release entertaining content.
10. Tumblr
Daily viewers: 20 million (U.S.)
Tumblr re-emerged as a social video app and people love it. It also allows for written content and blogging. Do not ignore Tumblr. Its algorithm isn't as growth-friendly as YouTube Shorts, Triller, Clapper or even Instagram, but boy is it a cool place to be, even in 2025. This a place your social media manager is likely to push you, if you want longer form written content as well as video.
11. Lemon8
Daily viewers: 3-5 million (U.S.)
Lemon8, is probably not where you want to invest your energy, as they are owned by ByteDance (the creators of TikTok), is gaining popularity as a content-sharing platform focused on lifestyle, travel, fashion, and food.

Daily viewers: 2-3 million (U.S.)
Mustar is a social video app with a focus on creators and influencers, emphasizing monetization for content creators.

Daily viewers: 1-2 million (U.S.)
Roposo is popular in India but has made strides in the U.S. with its focus on short-form video content, similar to TikTok.
15. Vero
Daily viewers: 2-4 million (U.S.)
Vero positions itself as an ad-free, community-driven platform. It’s still growing but remains popular for content creators seeking more control over what their followers see.
16. Slushy
Daily viewers: 1-2 million (U.S.)
Slushy is a small, niche platform catering to a younger, fun demographic. It has a similar vibe to TikTok but has struggled to attract a large user base. However, 1-2 million daily users might mean that there is less competition to develop a new following.
17. Clash
Daily viewers: 1-2 million (U.S.)
Clash was created by former Vine star Dom Hofmann and is another alternative short-form video platform. It focuses on creator-centric monetization and community building.

PopJam is a platform for younger audiences, especially kids, to create and share content in a safe environment.
19. Zoomerang
Daily viewers: 2-3 million (U.S.)

Daily viewers: 5-6 million (U.S.)
Vigo Video was once very popular but has since been phased out in favor of other apps like TikTok, leaving a small user base still engaged with its platform.

Your social media manager is no longer someone who just writes witty one-liners. They should be able to write, direct, find actors, handle the light post-production and optimize your videos for organic discovery. They should be the hybrid of a skilled comedy wr/iter/producer and the hot-shot advertising wiz. They must know both, and they must know what to do on what platform to see results.

The Power of the Content Calendar
Your content calendar must be very strategic in how it is laid out for each platform. Every platform and every age group and region has peak times for viewership, and you don't always want to follow when the app tells you your viewers are online, especially if you are looking to grow past your current viewer base.
Creating a content calendar allows your Social Media Manager to be proactive, and makes sure the right type of content hits at the right time, as with social media, timing is everything!
A great Social Media Manager is a vital asset to your team, and with the right strategies in place, they can help elevate your brand to new heights in the digital world.
