There is a lot of confusion over social media practices these days. And best practices seem to change all the time. A lot of people believe sharing the same video on multiple apps is a big mistake. Now, Chief Executive Officer of Instagram Adam Mosseri answers the question.
Can you share the video on multiple apps? Yes, but not if it originated straight from a competitor.
Adam Mosseri recently posted a video on Instagram on this very subject, adding the note. "One big misconception I hear is that sharing videos created on third party apps will hurt your reach – this is not true." Mosseri wrote, yet added one warning "Just make sure to remove any watermarks, as those can have an impact on reach."
So if you make a video on TikTok, and download it straight from the APP with the TikTok watermark, and then share it on Instagram and YouTube Shorts, yes, it will in fact fail. It will not do very good in viewership and some third-party apps, they won't even tale it.
Good News For Marketing Directors That Post On Social Media
Yet if you are a marketing director who uses a company to create videos for you, you can upload that same video to multiple places and do just fine. Repurposing content is an absolute necessity with so many platforms, and the fact you can do so allows marketing directors the ability to order content from professionals, instead of relying on crappy social media videos they make inhouse. Using companies with bulk social media packages like Brainiac Pictures, allows you to have a cohesive campaign even if on a tight marketing budget. Brainiac offers packages that give you up to 31 pieces of content per month, allowing you to flood social media with entertaining videos that build a following and push your brand.
What are some other tips when it comes to vertical video promotion success?
Instagram is not the only place that leaves people scratching their heads. Youtube Shorts, which is similar to TikTok and Instagram, also says you can use the same videos you use on other platforms if you do not use watermark or any of the oringial music or captions from those platforms. This is why it is pof benefit to have a pro company make your UGC content outside of the apps and then upload it from the phones.
Does using a scheduler on desktop versions of the app work?
We recently tried saving effort by scheduling content on all three platforms. While we saw great performance on clips scheduled on YouTube shorts and Instagram, TikTok viewership dropped considerably. To almost nothing. While this could ne a fluke, we have heard warnings from other content creators. Upload all TikTok videos from a phone and avoid scheduling on the desktop.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has also answered recent questions about YouTube Shorts, the vertical platform designed to compete with Instagram and TikTok.
Does the filename of your video matter to the algorithm?
"No, but the title does." Answers the tech giant's key decision-maker.
Does the video category you choose matter to the algorithm?
It's a minor factor. The content itself, hashtags, and descriptions carry more weight.

Shorts is the “number one” area of focus for “YouTube’s long-term growth," Google's chief business officer Philipp Schindler said. So, yes. THe viewership in terms of free organic promotion, is just a high there as it is on the rivals.
